FAQS

WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is a neuromuscular (mind-body) strength, endurance, and resistance exercise system that uses springs or body weight to achieve strengthened and toned muscles, improve postural alignment, and increased flexibility, balance, and coordination.  Pilates focuses on training the intrinsic (smaller) muscles of the body to improve core strength and joint stability to allow efficient use and strengthening of the more superficial (larger) muscles. Various equipment and props are used to aid finding the use of these muscles and to challenge the system.

WHAT IS STOTT PILATES?

STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates.  Lindsay and Moira Merrithew, along with a team of physical therapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals, have spent over three decades refining the acclaimed STOTT PILATES method of exercise. The refined method resulted in the inclusion of modern principles of exercise science and rehabilitation — making it one of the safest and most effective methods available. STOTT PILATES is recognized as The Professional’s Choice™ by studios, fitness facilities, fitness professionals and the consumer market worldwide.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Clients are encouraged to wear comfortable but fitted workout clothing to allow the instructor to better visualize your muscles and joint movements to ensure the best movement and stabilization patterns.  Socks with non-slip bottoms are required not only to protect the equipment but to maximize safety for all clients.

CAN I GET A SAME-DAY APPOINTMENT?

Though most appointments are pre-booked, cancellations allow for open slots.  Please call the studio to see if there is a space available.

WILL INSURANCE COVER MY VISIT?

The studio does not take insurance, however every insurance plan is unique and some health plans are beginning to support preventative care through fitness reimbursement add-ons to their plans.  Contact your insurance company to determine if you are eligible for reimbursement.  Additionally, some health savings accounts (HSAs)/ flexible savings accounts (FSAs) allow use of these funds for personal training and fitness.  Contact your health savings account administrator to determine if you can use your funds for Pilates training.
